It might seem that food is an ordinary thing that we need daily for survival, but the Georgians can teach us how to make every single meal a special occasion! Georgian traditions of toast-making, food sharing, and slow cooking have been kept alive by locals for years and centuries. At this food tour, we’re going to enjoy a Georgian-style meal and experience their particular kind of hospitable magic.
The cuisine of this region is a unique blend of Middle Eastern, Persian and other influences. It can be defined by an abundance of fresh green herbs, vegetables, garlic, walnuts, different kinds of bread, cheese and generous meat dishes. We start the tour with an introduction to Georgian cuisine at one of our favourite little gastronomic shops, where we discover the eclectic assortment of spices and cheeses and talk about the origins of traditional Georgian food.
Next, we walk through the backstreets of the historical centre of the city toward a restaurant that’s popular with the locals for its traditional cuisine. Here we have lunch with khinkali (dumplings filled with meat and steaming broth), Georgian salad and vegetable pkhali (crushed aubergine/spinach/beetroot with walnut and garlic paste) which we will be paired with a glass of local wine or even chacha (a type of strong, local brandy) if you’re brave enough.
Our final stop is a museum/shop dedicated all things ‘tea.’ Learn about local tea drinking traditions and also talk about the growing revival of tea-drinking in Georgia while we enjoy a tea ceremony. Our host will share the unique story of his work and life growing up in Tbilisi.

A fantastic afternoon tasting the amazing foods of Georgia and so much more. Small group (just 3 of us including the guide!) which made it almost a personal tour. Informative and fun. By the end of it, I felt I was hanging out with friends. Definitely recommend.
